http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox...dd-Holmdahl/p3/ This whole interview has some useful info you might be interested in. It tells you pretty much everything about the next box (the site as a whole is cool) and also explains how the Xbox 360 should stack up against the PS3. Though understandably bias most likely the guy seems to know what he's talking about so it would seem the Xbox may prove to be the superior platform for raw gaming power. EDIT: Whoops, this was kind of the actual link I meant to post, both are useful though http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1190/Xbox-360-Interview-Todd-Holmdahl/p1/
It has been confirmed though that the PS3 will flatten the 360 in terms of power, it claims to be 9 times more powerful than the 360. With the 360 being only 3 times more powerful than the PS2, making the PS3 12 times more powerful than its predecessor.
And where did you read this? Maybe it's twelve times more powerful than the Xbox 360 in terms of floating point performance but that's not worth an awful lot in actual processing power. I highly doubt the 360 is only 3 times more powerful than the PS2, the Xbox 1 is easily more powerful than the PS2 and and 360 is a helluva lot more advanced than it's former interation. 3 3.2GHz processors alone would translate into a whole lot more than three times the power of a 128-bit 300Mhz PS2 proc, which has been said to the be the equivalant of a decent P3.
those 3 3.2GHz processors from what i understand have hyperthreading(think i read it at IGN) so more like 6 3.2 GHz, also an article at IGN says pretty much the same thing, it states that while the PS3 has more raw power on paper it is practically useless to game developers, and that microsoft desgned the better system, it describes it a little more indepth. I cant find the article now but ill go look, its really interesting.
