I'm sure many people buy it. I mean if i was rich, i would definately buy it, but some people probably get it so that they are prepared for the future, you know?
if last christmas i got pci-express, i would get one of these, i just would not of bought the x800xt pe, and waited, i would have £400, and managed to get another £200 from somewere for it, imagine 4 of these on the new dual SLI gigiabyte board

I can't see the price staying that high for very long. Yes, some people can afford them, but even then, there's a point where people will just forget it. $750 for a non-workstation video card is a tough pill to swallow. I'd expect to see it settle around $500-600 or a little less if they want to sell these for Christmas.
I'm sure that guy is joking about his gram, I mean how man grandmothers do you know that have SLI rigs with one kick ass PSU? And if she wanted faster loading web pages why wouldn't he get her faster broadband? Funny just the same I think it would be cool but totally pointless aside from benchmarks. I mean sure these cards will last a while but one would be way more than enough and by the time it's not a way cheaper card will replace it with more features and power. But yeah for the righ why the hell not.
Mine. 6800's, 2gb, damn it's one hell of a pc. she bought it because she was told a better video card will make her digital pictures look better.
