Well I successfully built my friends PC a couple nights ago and the next day he came over and the first thing we did was install Call Of Duty 2. Well let me tell you it was amazing, I've never seen anything quite like it, for a $1000 dollar computer I couldn't have been happier we cranked all the rendering options, body counts, and filtering and the game looked fantastic and ran like a dream, no fps problems what-so-ever (load times were really quick too:good:). Kudo's to ABIT's awesome nForce 4 Ultra mobo, and ATI's X850Pro card, more kick butt than I ever could have hoped for.
Anyway the game itself is an amazing achievement. Aside stellar graphics and great detail the gameplay is as good as you could have hoped in many respects. But most importantly it's just so fun to play, really hard to put down. The pacing is nice and the weapons are cool and all have unique firepower/capacity/fireing rate ratios that add to the authenticity and variety. There was a tremendous amount of time put into the levels and there's ton of scripted events that look cool and fluid too.
Saying that it's like COD1 with better graphics is fairly accurate but there are improvments all around, from AI to level design. You really haven't ever felt so immersed in a game until you've played it through, especially D-Day which is one of the greatest gaming moments I've had in a long time. The smoke effects are virtually photorealistic, the sky is kick ass, the character models are vibrantly detailed, even the ground looks good.
There are a couple gripes however. It's still very linear for the most part, you can complete objectives in any order you want but as far as traveling goes it's pretty much one route to each point and there are a ton of road blocks, toppled card, and convienently placed stone blocks to bar you from areas. You also couldn't climb over much but at least you could fall really far without getting too hurt. I don't really mind it myself but I know some might. There's a fair bit of repitition in the game, good repitition as it's fun anyway but still, there's a lot of going in bunkers and pressing F to, plant explosives, pick up plans, or communicate with outside forces. Probably the biggest gripe I have is length. Sure there's enough replay value just because it's so damn fun but my friend and I completed the whole game in about 6-7 hours and we're not even that good. Granted it was on easy and was, for the most part just that but you'd expect a longer game, even if it would take longer to develope.
Probably the thing that makes it easy on easy is the fact that it's totally unrealistic heathwise. You heal on your own so there's no health packs or medics but you heal within seconds and you can take massive beatings with artillary and machine gun. However when you turn the difficulty up to verterain it gets insanely hard and a couple hits kill, though you still heal reeallly fast.
Still for the most part they're fairly small gripes and I highly recommend it to someone who wants a hightly viseral and cinematic war experience, or to anyone who likes fun.

I got my hands on a playable demo for this too, I thought it was really good as well. Thing is the demo (it was on the 360 at work) only had the English campaign mission where you need to take out the naval artillery guns. I swear if I hear the phrase "That MG42's a real bugger, flank it from the right" one more time, I will scream.

You say they attempted D-Day? That will be interesting to see, no other WW2 has attempted it since Medal of Honor did such a fantastic job with it. Perhaps this could be the one to make it seem real.

Yeah, i thought it was 'alright', but there is way too many Scripted sequences without any Ai which makes it a bit too predictable. But kudos to EA!

I loved it. I felt as if I was right in the action. A title totally worth buying.

Well if it's any consolation the Russian campaign is the worst one in my opinion. The game more or less improves as you continue.
Yeah there phrases and one-liners were extreamly repetitive, surprisingly so, especially concidering how much time was put into everything else. At least when they spoke their mouth moved realistically:good:

Personally i thought the game was a stunning improvement from COD1, the realism just struck me from the opening sequence, the sound, graphics are just so realistic, this has to be one of my top 10 games ;)

I'm assuming this still applies, because it is essentially the same game, but I own Call of Duty 2 for the X360 and am also extremely impressed. However I do envy the online play of the PC which supports 32 players as opposed to XBox Live's 8. I also think D-Day was excellently executed in this game, even more so than in MOH.

D-day was amazing, especally when you first hit the beach, when that guys picks you up and when you scale the cliff, sheer perfection right there:good:

No doubt about it, man. It's great. I like when your climbing up the rope and suddenly the man ahead of you (or is it above you?) does a swan dive falling to the ground. Just so intense!

Yeah when the guy falls on the man above you and they both plunge down, just crazy. Once you get up top it's not quite as amazing but still very intense as you put it.

Yeah, when you got up top I found that the game got really tough. The machine gunners seem like they are aiming only at you rather than at your whole army. I mean come on, the game is tough enough as it is! Heh.

Wow, you must have a beefy connection then, we all know how tough it would to play Doom 3 online and COD2 is only going to be more bandwidth hugry with big enviroments and a bunch of dudes running around.
