    Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me the connection layout of the the internal usb connections on the dell dimension 2400 motherboard? I'm putting the whole thing into a new case and everything is working except the front panel usb. I'd love some help.... there are two rows of pins, one of 5 pins the other of 4 pins, but my front panel has two sets of; 3pin row 5v/d+/d- (not sure the order) and a seperate earth pin. whatever way i seem to try and attach them i either get no power, power but it freezes the pc when i attach a device, or power but it doesnt recognise the device when i attach it. the back usb ports work fine with the device.

    hi,

i have found the user mauel for your computer which includes the motherboard jumper locations,

    http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/techov.htm

okay, for some reason i cannot put the whole link on here, just click on the link above, then search for dell dimension 2400, then go to support and information, then techniccal support, then documetation, then technical spec, there is a digarm of ur mobo showing you where to put the usb jumpers, the info is definety there, but the link i have given just redirects you to their home page.

hope this has helped you out:)

p.s, their website seems to keep redirecting me, when the first time it worked fine, its a bit long winded i know, as for some reason i cannot directly link to the page

    Hi,

that page only seems to display the pin assignments for the power connections, I can't see pin assignments for the internal usb :(

alright, this is how it stands. presuming the pin connections are right (which from all the diagrams of intel boards etc i could find, they are) my windows xp comp is freezing when i connect a device to the front usb but not the back, does anyone know why i might have THIS problem?

The motherboard details seem to be this:
    Chipset: Intel(R) 845G Chipset Family
    Memory Controller: 82845G/GE/GL/GV
    I/O Controller: 82801DB (ICH4)
Internal Graphics: Intel(R) 8245G Graphics Controller

the more info the more narrow the search would be, so I found nothing with alot of info, but still with just the manufacturer and chipset selected I still found no results

but I don't think the manual will solve my problem, I don't think its a pin assignment problem anymore, I just don't know why the front usb freeze the comp. I also found out today that USB 1.1 work but USB 2.0 are freezing it, I know the board supports 2.0 though

what operating system do you have?
if you have xp you need sp2, as that adds support for usb 2
