i have an asus a8n-sli permium mobo that has the feature cool "n" quiet. now the question is, is there any use to enable this feature, does it really do anything? does it down clock my current cpu and gpu speeds then speeds them back up when i play a game? i keep my computer on 24/7 , it never heats up or anything, but i need to know if this feature has any impact on anything, will it cool my computer parts and have an impact on performance? appreciate your help...
It doesn't do a whole lot. If you enable it you'll just have you're speeds taken down a bit when you're not under load (for CPU only) and then as you get under load things with increase to their normal speeds. As the speeds drop so does the fan speed apparanetly so that's the quiet part. It's really more useful for laptops or silence junkies but I'd just as soon keep it off if I were you just so you've always got your full processor potential at hand.
hmm, i guess your right, i just dont like the feel of my processor slowing down just because im not doing anything...
Yeah just leave it off, if you want to control fan speed get a fan speed controller, even with fans turned right down (with the system idling) it shouldn't overheat, might be a different story if you turn the fan off completely though but something like SpeedFan can help you monitor temps and make sure things don't overheat. As for cool 'n' quiet take a look at AMD's Site on what they have to say. Read the rest on AMD's site (that I linked earlier in the post)
