Been looking at an old Yamaha sound card for my Tyan system build.
If you could generalise Yamaha's sound cards over the last five years, would you say they make good cards?

The card in question is an old YMF724.

ps.. oops, maybe this should have gone in the new build/advice area....

My dad's used a couple but he's no audiophile and wouldn't tell the difference between a yamaha sound card and a singing refridgerator magnet. So I can't really tell you how they perform.

At the time, Yamaha did make some decent sounding audio chips. They seem to have disappeared from that market for the time being

I guess it really depends on what you indend on doing with the card.

It's for my Tyan system build, which is only for a test rig. So in reality, I won't be using the sound card for any more then Windows start up music! :p

I was just curious, thats all. It wouldn't have made much difference if it was the worst sound card ever produced!
