    Hi all

I've just purchased 2 1GB DDR 400 ram modules (from ebay, here is the ebay link so you can look at the ram specs http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6834223414&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:US:1 item number: 6834223414)

I have a MSI K8N Neo Series MoBo (E7030) which is a NForce3 250GB chipset and it says in the manual that it will take a max of 2GB in DDR 400 (and the ebay seller also said it will work on an NForce3 board)

however when i put the memory in and turn the machine on i get a long beep, followed by a pause then repeating the long beep (and the machine doesnt boot up)

This is the same sounds that is made when there are no ram modules in the machine, so does this mean that the new ram is faulty or am i not doing something i should be?

My ram voltage is set to auto (and with my pc2700 ddr333 it is running at 2.60v whereas this pc3200 ddr300 is meant to be run at 2.5v but as its auto i assume it would default to that)

does anyone know why this is not working?

by the way i have a AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (Newcastle brand id: 4) socket 754

Does this happen if you only insert one stick in?
If possible, i would install the RAM in another computer and run Memtest86 overnight and see what comes up. You could also check on your motherboard manufacturers website to see if the RAM modules are compatible with said motherboard.

Hi, yes i tried it with one module and it has the same problem.

the only thing i can think it "may" be but probably isnt (unless of course it is infact faulty) is that im currently running pc2700 at 2.6v (bios is set to auto so it is automatically running at 2.6v) but the new pc3200 is 2.5v, but surely the voltage should be automatically set to 2.5v if its set to auto in the bios.

it seems more and more likely that the memory is faulty :(
