Hey everybody, hope you all had a great christmas and new year! Well, I seem to be having quite a few problems with my sister's Dell Dimension 2300. First of all, she has somehow managed to un-install the CD drive. Ive been trying to fix it and in doing so ive messed it up. The drive no longer open's up automatically but the little LCD light just keeps flickering, with no CD in. Ive tried a "cold boot" and it doesn't work. Has anybody got an help they can give me? And any tips about how to re-install the CD drive. Please help me! If you have any helpful hints either reply directly to this thread or email me on [email protected]

    Cheers!

First, you should try opening the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' in control panel and try to force Windows into detecting the drive, and from there, Windows should install the drive for you.
Let us know how it goes :)

I tried the suggestion submitted by Pelvis_3 but it didn't work. It came up with this error " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Does anybody know what I should do?

Does the drive show up in Device Manager?
If so, you shoud right click and select uninstall and reboot your system.
From there, Windows should install it again for you.

Thank you again for this suggestion, but unfortunatly it hasn't worked. I went on device manager, right clicked it and did un-install and it deleted it off the list. But when I rebooted it and went on device manager it had re-appeared. I tried to install it via the Add Hardware Wizard but it still came up with the same error as before.

You should visit Dell's website and download the latest drivers for your model.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling your IDE controllers.
