Seeing that we have a thread like this for PC games I see we might as well include consoles into the mix too. So as the title says, what was the first console game you played, or watched attentively even. Gameboys and portables count to. For me it was probably King of Fighters, Bubsy, and SplatterHouse III on UnSeEn's Sega Genesis, great times those. SplatterHouse III's evil mutating teddy bear scene was far too much for my youthful eyes and all my teddy bears were from then on bannished to the attic and shut in a box...
For me, my first games were Super Metroid, Shadowrun and Illusion of Time for the Snes, great times those were, and I still own all three games.
Nice, I played it emulated on one of my friends PC's but it was really hard using a keyboard to aim in all those directions, if I get the Revolution though it would be great to d/l it
Aww Jesus, Exfoliate, you brought back some memories. Yeah, those were some of my first console games. I was a Sega guy (bad choice? Maybe..). Streets of Rage 3 was probably my first Sega game, kick ass game. You know, I dug out some Sega games before I left again for school. I didn't remember most of them at all!!!!! And I don't have a Sega anymore...shame really.
You should really look into one on Ebay, I'd even chip in just to relive those grand old times. Or just d/l the roms for the games you have.
Good point Gaber. Perhaps I'll invest in that (be about 10 bucks for a Sega and a bunch of games now) or yeah, I'll just grab the ROMs. GASP! Against the school's laptop acceptable use policy. Murder me now!! Meh, I don't care. If they ever looked on my laptop, they'd see that I've broken every rule in their little book. Suckers.
The first console I ever owned was a Sega Master System way back in 1989-90 (or there abouts ) The first game I ever played was (of course) Sonic The Hedgehog I can barely remember the other games I owned. Most of them had really generic names like 'Super Tennis', or 'Axe Masters' It was Sega all the way for me, I went on to buy the MegaDrive (my favourite console ever), and the Saturn (very underated). I kind of lost touch with games when the Dreamcast came out. I haven't bought a console since the 32-BIT days
My old favs (judging from what I've scene and read) would be the Genesis and SNES, a bunch of great titles for those two, I can't really put one over the other as they both have some classics for sure.
I've drifted away from consoles over the years. I've had 1) A Gameboy (the clunky kind) that my babysitter gave me 2) The Sega. I loved that thing for years! 3) My N64...oh boy. Great times with that. 4) a PS2 for a few months before my friend broke his and took it back from me. Oh well. I've always liked computer way more. I might buy a new one sometime, but not for the next 4-5 years I'm betting. Expensive, they are. Rather have a really good computer than a next-gen console.
Mario for me on the NES. Damn I liked that game, but you couldn't save yor game so you'd have to start all over again every time you turned the NES off.
So taking into account the new Nintendo Revolution will allow you to relive those lost days, can you see it being a big hit?
Hopefully, there are a lot more people who seem interested compared to those who like the gamecube. I admire Nintendo, sure their console doesn't have the greatest lineup of games but there are some fun ones and they've got Resident Evil 4 which is sweet. And for $100 you're getting a pretty wicked little box, with the Revolution expected to fall under $250 you're getting quite a deal with what, like 7 systems essentually integrated into one.
As was the norm for many NES games, you kept going until you got killed, got given a password to start from there again. Just like Metroid, now that was a true NES classic.
For me probably Sonic on the Megadrive (Genesis) Bubsy was close after that I think, man that game was good, collect yarn balls - the whole game was about collecting yarn balls. Cool spot was another one of the first games I played...that was such a good game - You were the red dot from the 7up cans, you went collecting other little red dots, to beat enemies you kinda threw fizzy bubbles at them (not completely sure though, it's been a while )
Oh my god...that WAS a cool game. And the little dog runs to pick up the ducks. That must have been the first console game I ever played, though I never owned a NES. Crazy...
