Hey all, popped in to Walmart and finally got my long awaited new TV. Yes it's widescreen, which I realize isn't the most popular among the HWF's crowd but I've learned to see it's value and all my DVD's are pretty much widescreen so it was worth getting one to furture proof you know. So yeah it's a Sanyo 28'' widescreen HD TV. It automatically converts all sources to 1080i which is pretty sweet.
Needless to say everything looks sooooo much better. I had no idea how behind in the times I was, what was before unreadable text, a blurred sprite, or an oversaturated texture now looks sharp, clean, and vibrant. For $458 I'd say I did pretty well. Naturally the dude at Walmart didn't know what 1080i or 480p was but I'd read that it supported 1080i so that's all that really concerns me in the long run. My only gripe is that there's no progressive/480p support which is a bit of a bummer but hey everything looks better detail wise in 1080i so it doesn't really matter. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a new affordable HD TV that isn't reliant on progressive.

    Nice!!
When you say 'my' TV do you mean yours personally or like the family TV for the sitting/living room?
Either way it's damn sweet (although if it's yours personally then that's awesome!)
I have a widescreen TV in my bedroom, the TV downstairs in the living room is old and when watching widescreen stuff it usually just enlarges it and cuts the ends off, not too good :( but my screen (while not as big, mine is 24" Widescreen 16:9, downstairs is 28" 4:3 ratio I think) is great for movies in my room - Run the audio through my amp and stereo, WOOOOOOOOO!
:good: Hope enjoy the benefits of HDTV Ex, I was looking at one the other day, this thing was crystel clear, and it was big!

I personally like widescreen, for some TV shows it may be annoying but the TV in my room can change it's ratio, then I just set it to 4:3 or 14:9. It's on auto most of the time so if a TV show has a set ratio then it'll change but I can then set it to a different ratio if I want.
Why do you hate widescreen sabashuali?

Do you mean 16x9 dude? I've usually got mine on full now, which is essentually 16x9 as it's a widescreen. Looks great, I don't miss the head room at all.
Thanks all, glad you like it:)
That's a fine TV you've got there Nic, nice and large but not huge. I can't stand most of those rear projection TV's horrid viewing angle and really dull, washed out picture.
Oh and yeah it is mine actually, I paid the premium so I've just got it up in the den (the 100lb. beast was a pain to get up the stairs though). I'll let my parents use it now and then if they can figure out my PS2 and they're nice to me:)

No I did mean 14:9, my TV has different ratios, 4:3, 14:9, 16:9 (Widescreen)
    14:9 is between 4:3 and 16:9...

Okay, I figured it was just a different ratio, but it's a new one for me. Do any of you notice much of a difference with progressive scan enabled? I've heard it was pretty good but I don't know what would be better, a PS2 game supposibly run under 1080i, or one run under 480p. The only game that seems to run a little choppy is Shadow of the Colossas but I know that has a frame rate problem anyway so I can't really tell not having experience 480p before.
