Can a monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050 HAVE to have a card that can match that resolution exactly or does a card that handles 1600 X 1200, 1920 X1440 and up to 2048 X 1536 also work with that monitor? I know absolutely nothing about video cards.... so any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks, Joe
So long as the card can handle at least that resolution your fine. If it can handle higher that's better (as all modern cards can handle at least 2048 X 1536 so anything that can't is old school as a general rule). Just like your monitor, your video card can handle many differnt resolutions so you never have to worry about sticking to one.
Anytime man, just remember that the maximum resolution is also the recommended resolution as by going lower you may get some reshaping/stretching of the image on some models. Not a big deal though.
I have a question on this same topic: My monitor is a Sony SDM-HS73 BC 17" LCD and my video card is a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra but the highest I can get my resolution is 1280X1024 though 1280x960 looks best. Is it the card or the monitor thats holding me back when it comes to resolution??....and why is it that 1280x1024 doesn't look as clear as 1280x960
Your 17'' won't go past 1280x1024, that's simply it's max resolution. Your 5700U will support far greater resolutions but you can't force what isn't possible on a screen that size. As for why 1280x1024 looks worse than 1280x960 is a little beyond me. Granted the difference between the two is very minor in terms of overall pixels but unless your monitor tells you 1280x960 is the optimal resolution then I really couldn't tell you. Perhaps it's shaped slighly differently than the norm so a slightly shorter resolution help?
Thanks... So what size monitor would I need to support 1600x1200?....and I was thinking of getting a new video card.. should I or should I get a new monitor? I'm trying to build a gaming monster worse than the one you have as your image.
Off topic i know, but how are you enjoying that screen. cuz that was an option when i got mine but i went for the BenQ. Welcom to the world of the awsome monitors.
Depends on what your video card is now Spyder, I can only imagine it will be able to handly any decent display but if your in the market for a new one just post a new thread and give us a price range and we'll have a few in no time.
The monitor is great. I have a GeForce FX 5700 Ultra..I'm thinking of getting the 7800 but I was also thinking about dual core and other things..like over clocking its all new to me..but thats for a different thread.
