    My spec is

    amd x2 4400
    pure innovation mobo
    gskill hz pc4000 (2gb)
    x1800xt 512 gfx card
    soundblaster x fi extreme
    200gb maxtor hdd
    hiper type r 580w

2 weekes ago.. i installed a slave hdd (IDE), i tried to format that drive, instead my computer crashed a bit way through it, so i took the slave drive back out and restarted.

the computer then locked up just before the first windows screen, after much thinking and experimenting, also resetting the cmos... i had to set my memory to 166mhz (ddr333) for the computer to load up.

i contacted the place i bought the memory from and they gave me an RMA number, the memory was replaced with some new gskill hz pc4000... ive just put the new same memory in and the problem remains.. windows wont load up unless the memory is set lower than 200mhz (DDR400)... either im unfortunate to have 2 sets of dodgy ram (although my first memory was working fine for 3weeks until i put the slave hdd in) or something else is totally borked in my computer.

ive contaced the shop and gskill again, but if anyone has any insight on here then please let me know.... im now worrying incase its the motherboard that is borked.

    any help appreciated. thanks.

    Have you tried :

    1) re- install the sound card.

    2) check for new windows, mobo, sound card,,,,

    3) re install windows

4)new mobo bios - carefull with this one...

You might need to fiddle with the memory timings some, or increase the voltage.
You should be able to increase this to 2.8V without worry. Increase it just enough to avoid errors. Also, while you're doing this, you may want to snag [google]Memtest86[/google] and use that to check for RAM errors. Your RAM may not be bad, but there is the possibility that it may need a little voltage boost and/or timings loosenened up. Run Memtest overnight (8hrs+) and see if you come up with any errors. If you do, bump up the memory voltage a little and make sure your CPU voltage is set to 1.4V (in case it's set lower with the automatic settings).

tried all that... still got the same issue...

no mtter what voltage or what settings the timings are it will restart or lockup...

i can only get the computer stable with the memory set at 166mhz 2T... nothing else will work

    is my mobo broke?
