What do u guys think of Nero as CD-burning software? (I just bought a new CD burner finally. The only other one I've owned b4 broke a long time ago.) Is it just me or does Nero come with almost any burner u buy? But my main question is, u guys think it's good? My friend once told me it sucks. I would think it really doesn't make much difference what software you use since burning a CD is pretty standard, but still I'm just wondering. Any opinions?

I currently have Nero 7 Premium and have been using Nero for ages now. The oldest disc I have is V 5.something but thats certainly not the oldest I used. Anyway if its Nero Burning ROM then Id say your sorted it has everything you need in a burner plus its quick and easy to navigate. However if its the edition with just Nero Start Smart it still burns like Nero but in my opinion its harder to use plus theres less features in it.

I'm not a big fan of Nero, I use Nero 6 but it seems a bit bloated sometimes.

Nero is probably the best Windows burner available. It's doesn't end there though, it's full of other useful tools and applications. It can rip mp3s, convert file formats and create CD covers. There's a DVD player and media player as well.

If you look in the bargain zone in this forum, you will see i've found Nero 6 for a pound (assuming you live in the UK)!

EDIT: No you live in the USA..... :D

For Windows I do not really know a better suite.
But yes, it is an overkill if you are jut looking to burn CD's.
Alot of other programs use the nero DLL anyway......
It is a bit like a good swiss army knife. It has all the tools but it is big and a bit clumsy....

If you want less bloatedness DO NOT use Nero 7 Premium soo many extra features that have no use..well I suppose you could choose not to install them lol

Oh, that's cool. Ok u guys know what's really interesting though? Actually kinda supid rather than interesting ... The Nero CD that came with my LiteOn CD burner says it's "for DVD-Rewritables only" on it. I pop it in, it's all about DVD. I click on "Drive's user manual," and it has several links like "Internal DVD Rewriter Manual"; "External DVD Rewriter Manual"; etc. I got excited for a sec, thinking that maybe they put in the wrong hardware in the box too and I got a dvd burner instead of a cd burner lol -- but no. Everything else is right but I got gypped out of the proper software! Can't believe they made such a dumb mistake. I really don't think I wanna bother sending it back to the online retailer i got it from to get an exchange though.

But anyway, I dug up 2 old Nero CD-s. As I mentioned above, I once had a burner a long time ago so one of them must be from that. (No idea where the second one came from; I only remember ever having one burner. Oh well, whatever.) One of them is Nero Express and the other is Nero Burning Rom. But both of them have a label on the CD that says "The software will only work with the drive it came bundled with." What the hell? Is that really true or are they just trying to scare me into buying a new version? Should I try to use it or am I gonna screw something up? I don't get how they could have made it work for only one specific drive ... But if they did, this really sucks cuz now I don't have any software to do burning with ...

It should work. I once had a power dvd software that said only for used with Dell and that didn't work but nothing about burners. Just try it the worst thatll happen is that itll say it cant be installed.
