I know a friend of mine had a Nokia 6600 smartphone with Psiloc irRemote S60 software on it, except he couldn't use it completely since it's "Try & Buy" software ie. shareware. Here is a website about Psiloc irRemote S60 software

I don't know if there is any similar software available for a laptop and would find it kind of akward to control a tv with a laptop :s

Infrared ports are moslty used to connect with mobile phones, printers which support infrared and to other laptops. I've bought a usb infrared adapter a long time ago I've rarely used it, it's now collecting dust in a dark corner somewhere in my home.

    Greetings,

The infrared receiver in a laptop is different to your bog standard receiver in a DVD player for example. It's designed to transfer files at speed between laptops.

As far as I am aware, there is no way to use a remote control with it.

it might be possible, but finding software to do it would be a hassle.

I know gameboy colors can be used as remotes!
