I've got an old computer and I'm going to be installing Linux on it, but when I start it up it goes to a BIOS password screen. I've tried different passwords with no success. I've taken out the little battery on the mother board for over an hour with everything unplugged from the computer. I then tried starting it up again with out the battery and it came to the password screen. Does anyone know how I can get around this password or if I'm not properly erasing the cmos memory or whatever could you please help.
you were right, it should have worked, inside your computer (on the motherboard, probably near the battery) is a set of three pins with a small plastic jumper on pins 1 and 2 pull the jumper off and put it on pins 2 and 3, then wait for about 10 seconds, then put the jumper back on pins 1 and 2, the CMOS should now be cleared
