Hi Everyone, I am having trouble with my Burner drive; it doesn't recognize any CDs anymore. Everything I've tried tells me the Drive is working properly, but no discs are recognized.
fistly i think it may need a firmware upgrade, if you don't know how to do this, just ask, but before that which operating system are you using (Win XP SP2)
Which drive do you have? Also, do you you have any software starting up with the computer like Nero InCD, Flash drive partition software or DVD Region free programs as these can sometimes interfere.
The drive in question is my E: Drive. I also have a D: Drive for a CD-Rom, and no, I do not have any programs that start-up in conjunction with this drive.
right its XP SP2 you may want to try removing the CD-RW in the system device manager then reboot and reinstall it, what model is the LG drive then i can try to locate a firmware update
i finally found a firmware upgrade for you, the problem was your drive may say it was manufatctured by LG but its an oem drive sold under the name of LG/HLDS/Goldstar/Hitachi http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1877 try that
oh, somthing you SHOULD know by flashing the firmware you could kill your drive (worst case senario) so be very careful to do it correctly, good luck.
You can't just assume it needs a firmware update. If the drive was working correctly beforehand, the chances are there is some rogue software causing conflicts, possibly a virus or the drive is just dead. Try testing your drive in another computer if possible. Try a Linux live cd and see if Linux recognizes any discs. Scan for Virii and Ad-ware. You should rule out these scenarios first before risking your drive with firmware flashing.
pelvis_3 is right, try a virus and adware scan first, but a firmware update could still solve your problem, i think i'll leave you in the capable hands of pelvis_3 and Karanislove, good luck.
you didn't hurt me but, i'm just saying what i'd do on my own machine if it was displaying the same symptoms
