HI i have bought a 2nd hand lian li server case. My plan for this is to create a 120mm blow hole at the top and give it a mirror shine paint job. I know that i have to work my way up in grades in sand paper and using a sandable or self etching primer with an enamael black gloss. Then i would use a rubbing compound to bring out the shine but the problem is i don't know where to find this in the UK - anyone know any good and affordable ones in the UK? Also i will install a fan controller preferably the areogate cool watch and install some led fans as well. Is there any other ideas that you would do to this case - please share them thanks.
To your first question, I don't have a clue. However to your second question, install multiple HDs it helps when running a server but i don't know how advance you are and how much your understanding of servers is. I'd check on the net what would be best to suit your needs. Also i would ENSURE you have enough fans especially for a dedicated server. I found out while setting a server up for someone that because it was self built, the person who made it hadnt put enough fans on it an it overheated alot. Becareful
i think uve mis understood me. even though its a server case, i will be using it for an atx motherborad (normal computer motherboard) not a server. I just got this case because i like the amount of space it has for fans etc therfore better cooling.
Then in my opinion just get the best spec you can for your budget. Sorry for this miss understanding, my bad!
He's not looking at building a server. He's using a server case, and even if you're not setting up a server, a larger case is much easier to work with. But, to answer the question, you'll want a hi-gloss paint. You may not need to shine it. The other option would be to anodize the case. I'm not that well-versed in it, but you wouldn't have to paint it, and the metal would be protected from rust. The results give a pretty shiny look, and you can add color to the process. Where you do that, I don't know off-hand, but I would suggest doing some research at a site like [H]ard|Forums.
UPDATE: The next stage is for me to cut an A in the front of the case as A is the first letter of my name. This was just a wild idea that i had in my head. Then i was thinking of using some mesh or something that has a mesh effect i can find lying around in the house and placing this in the back of the A. This will then or should look cool with the two red led fans i will use at the front. Believe me this didnt look as easy as planned as the thickness of the alluminium was stronger then i thought. I have below a pic of the A i cut out which took me a while to do (the yellow is the primer paint im using so ignore that at the moment): If it looks slightly crooked - its the font i used as that was the design of the font - gives it an unusual look. Although im only 17 and no experience wot so ever in case modding so it could have been just me lol. Although you cant really tell. I then looked around my house thinking what i could use. I did have some mesh but when i placed this at the back of the A, it looked odd as the front part of the case where the A is already contains holes as this was from the original case design then i came across this:
Well, that mesh doesn't look very condusive to airflow, so you might want to consider something else behind it that would do the trick. I'd look at your local hardware stores and see what they have
the holes are quite open, its just the picture that makes it look like this. Its actually a dust filter so it lets air through and prevents from dust comming in, which should be a bonus
