I have an MP3 player, Digital camera, and a USB storage device I got with my AR Max. All of these create their own drive when connected, however, the computer freezes when they attempt to do so. I tried restarting the computer with one of them still connected, and then Windows won't even load. I've tried the MP3 player on other computers to be sure the problem isnt the removable drives, and it works fine on other computers. I also know it's not a problem with the USB slots because I have a webcam that works fine. My only guess is somehow the drives just can't be created, but I've no clue why. I've checked my config.sys and the lastdrive = M, so I'm stumped. The only clue I've got isthat the problems didn't start until I tried installing the Digital camera, but plugged it into the USB prior to installation. Any suggestions? Win98SE, 224MB RAM, Pentium II (dont make fun :-p i need the storage devices to transfer these files to my new computer)
Have you looked at the minimum requirements for the problem devices? Your system is old enough that it may not meet these specs. Secondly, were there any drivers you needed to install with your problem USB devices? If not, check the manufacturer's site as Windows 98/98SE was around in the early stages of USB, so support isn't quite what it is with newer Windows versions.
well I used MP3 players for years, this one in particular for about one year, and i updated my AR Max codes with the other device.. the digital camera was the only one I didnt get to work but now none of them work. i tried installing the drivers for the camera hoping that'd be the answer, but no results.
Plug your device into your computer and look at the device manager, can you see a yellow exclamatery sign over there?
thats the problem, i woulsnt know.. when i plug anything in the computers sits for a second, then dots are printed across the top of the screen and it freezes
ok, well after tryin a lotta stuff, i cleaned my power supply cuz it waws gettin a bit dusty, and decided to try out the storage devices again well now the computer doesnt freeze until the device is dicsonnected so i can see it in the device manager ok heres what i've got: There IS a yellow exclamatory mark over the device.. and in its properties it says "Windows stopped responding while attempting to start this device, and therefore will never attempt to start this device again (Code 11.)" suggestions?
Windows stopped responding while attempting to start this device, and therefore will never attempt to start this device again. (Code 11) For more information, look up ASD in Windows Help. Try upgrading the device drivers for this device. Solution button: Update Driver To resolve this error, run the Automatic Skip Driver utility from the System Information tool. If the problem persists, contact the hardware manufacturer for updated drivers. Source: [link=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q125174/]Microsoft Support[/link]
