    Hello Chaps and Chapeses!
A quick question if I may. Where do I find a network printer`s name? To put you in the picture, I have three computers connected to a hub. Connected to one of the computers there is a printer. I have all the "share printer" boxes
checked. When I try to install the printer on one of the other computers, so that they can use the printer, I am asked for the printers URL etc etc. I have tried to "browse" for the printer but the two computers that are not attached to the printer cannot find it. In the next box down it ask`s for the printers name i.e \\server\printer. In the third box down it ask`s for the printers URL i.e //server/printers/myprinter/.printer. Taking into consideration I am an idiot, I`m finding this a bit beyond me. Can anyone PLEASE explain in idiots language what this all means and how I get the other computers in a position to use the printer.

Sorry, but there`s one in every village!
    Regards
    Tich

You may need to enable file and printer sharing.

If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, this should do the trick:

Go into Control Panel and open Network connections. In the box that pops up, right-click on the Network Adapter and select Properties. Under the 'General' tab, make sure that 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks' is there and the box checked. If not, hit the Install button, select Service, and then select 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks'.

You may want to restart the PC with the printer attached.

The URL of the printer may be //computername/nameofprinter. Alternatively you can use the ip address of the computer instead of the name, find this by start>run>cmd>ipconfig.

Thankyou for all your replies gentalmen. I have now, probably more by luck than judgement, got it sorted. In the URL box I typed in \\The computer name\And the word "printer" rather than the actual make of printer. For what ever reason it worked. Thankyou all again for your help.
    Regards

How about just using feature "browse for printer" and select one from the list?
