hi, i have a DIMM 256Mb PC2100 (unknown if working) and another DIMM installed (256Mb unknown speed) basically the DIMM installed only has chips on one side whereas the PC2100 has chips on both sides of the DIMM, and when installed together the pc doesn't even reach the POST, are they incompatable ? (with just the PC2100 the pc speaker makes rapid short beeps, and with both installed (in either DIMM slot) i think the PC2100 DIMM module is knackered but would like confirmation, thanx
Try them in the system separately and see if you come up with any problems. They may both be good, but you might have conflicts between the two, especially if they're not using the same RAM chips.
i have tried them separatly (in both DIMM slots) but i only get the rapid fire short beep with the RAM i know is 256Mb PC2100, is there something i can download to tell me what the other stick of RAM is (PC2100, 3.3v, latency) BTW i've looked on the M/B and in BIOS but can't find where i adjust latency (it used to be adjusted in the BIOS, but is it now auto configed)
I can think of a few things: Could be that your other stick of RAM is faster (PC2700 or even PC3200), and your PC2100 stick is too slow - incompatible with your processor's current bus speed. If you want to find out the speed of your other piece of RAM, check out Fresh Diagnose On the other hand, it may be that your PC2100 stick is simply dead. Constant beeps can represent memory failure.
the reason i'm asking is: i'm thinking of upgrading my RAM and i don't want to throw away 256Mb if i can still use it, thanx in advance
