hi,im using a ntl home 100 broadband modem.i am on 10mb broadband service, and conect via ethernet. ive not made any recent changes, but for some weird reason my modem keeps rebooting between every 15mins to half hour. i have run numerous spyware/adware/antivirus progs etc,but not found anything. i can be just browsing,or downloading, and suddenly i get the message 'local area network unplugged'?. then if i leave it,it reboots and conects again. just wondering if any of you guys have ever had similar probs, and if you found a solution?. thanks in advance for any help or advise.
You might want to check the internal settings of the modem. Check the manual for the specifics. Second thing I'd do is put it on a different plug if possible. It may be hooked up to a bad outlet.
you could try a different RJ58 cable (between the router and microfilter, an old problem that i haven't expirienced for a while, bassically some cables don't work with some hardware (some plugs reach further than others)) or try another microfilter
hi guys, thanks for the bits of info. its an external cable modem(ntl home 100). just reboots wen it feels like it,its only been doing it for past week or so,ive had it 7 years(probably ready for knackers yard, but ntl dont give u owt unless its broke ). i cant change the plug because it runs from an ac adaptor with a small jack plug for back of modem. ive checked connections from ethernet/plug socket/jack plug etc. cant fathom it out,1 minute its ok,next it reboots and starts up again?. i dont know much about cable modems,is there an 'after market' modem i could use?. i will have a look around. thanks again for your advise.
Try unplugging the modem and TV set top box (if you have one) for about a minute. Then turn back on and see if it makes a difference
Hi I use to have a similar problem on NTL, try getting a new cable, as it might have a loose connection or a break in the cable, that's what I had to do. I hope this helps.
