You might have so many processes running at startup of your computer. Try removing some like messengers etc... it will make your computer startup faster. To remove these processess just type msconfig in run and select start tab there......unclick which ones you dont want alternatively some programs can be removed from the start>programs>startup as well.

Run in safe mode and run antivirus, adware check etc.. and see if you come out with viruses or trojans etc...

Edit: Or you can restore your system to previous working time in the safe mode........To go in safe mode switch on your computer and press f8 tab continously.

What you should really do is boot into safe mode,
run msconfig from the Run menu, on the General Tab Select
the 'Diagnostic Startup' option. From there, reboot your machine
and load Windows normally. If it doesn't freeze, it is a startup item
conflicting with something. Then you can slowly rule out any conflicting
    drivers or software.

it could also be a driver problem, go into safe mode as pelvis & karni suggested and hopefully the mouse will work

do keyboard shortcut work, does pressing the window key bring up start menu ?
if it does then its either adware or mouse drivers problem or a dead mouse
