    Hi All,
I have got a real problem with my pc, which I recently built, but the problem has only happend at the end of last week. Anyway here is a quick run through of what happened...

Last week I got upgraded to 8mb broadband. Everything was going ok. I was constantly checking an ADSL speed test, bbmax, to see how my machine was going, and it seemed to be good, until the weekend...
When I would set off the speedtest, download was fine, but then it would get stuck and not do the upload test. I could leave it for hours, and it would not change from the "preparing upload test". I tried everyhing, but it would just not do it. I also noticed that my msn messenger would not sign in at all. Since then I could not log into my computer from work using logmein.com, and my freecom dvb usb stick would not work either!!!! So I tried to restore my netgear router to a previous backup, but again when I came to chose the file and press restore, nothing happened!!!

All this, by the way worked perfectly on my wifes pc, which is attached to the same router!!

Anyway I decided yesterday to reinstall windows xp home, and yep you guessed it same problem. This on a totally clean install of xp with no added programs. A friend of mine has said it could be a bad network port (attached to motherboard). Could it be my router? I have tried swapping cables, but still the same problem. I have tried it with a pci network card, but I cant seem to get it to work. I have also borrowed another friends router to try it tonigh to see if it makes a difference.

My set up at the moment is
    AMD 3500+ 64
    Asus A8NE Mobo
    1gig ram
    6600le graphics card

Can anyone help please. It is driveing me nuts!!!!

    Nick B

    Hmmm, interesting..

Can you see an active connection in Windows? Does it say 'network cable unplugged'?

Go into a command prompt and type ipconfig /all

Are all the settings correct? They should be if you are using DHCP

If your IP address starts with 169 then you have a DHCP problem.

i will try that tonight, but I do have (most) internet connection, so there is a connection

I am just totally baffled by what it is doing. I have got a funny suspicion that it is limiting the upload (if that is possible), cause it seems to go wrong when I am sending information in the form of passwords etc...

    Thanks for your help
