This problem just popped up about a week ago, and has been plaguing me ever since. It seems that whenever I run a game that uses D3D and/or 3dfx, my mouse will crash in game, being completely useless. At which point I exit the game, and my mouse still does not function untill I reboot my machine. I've tried using the manufacturers drivers as well as the latest intellipoint drivers, but nothing helps. Anyone ever had this problem before? Or anyone want to confirm my thoughts that the damn thing is broken within its first 2 months of use?
I read the following some where Go to your System Properties then go to the Performance Tab, click on the Graphics tab. Then just adjust the Hardware acceleration tab back to three quarters of the way. It might fix the problem, I dont think the mouse is broken if it works until you start playing a game. let us know how it goes
Hmm, thats an incredibly good idea sniper, as I dropped the slider back a notch, it stated that that setting was useful for correcting most mouse pointer problems (!!!!, I'm going to reboot now and check it out. but yes, I have the latest detonator drivers from Nvidia, however I do not have working via 4in1 drivers, as it claims theres a registry error every time I run the install. Anyways, I will let you know if it worked
Dunno just yet, CD-ROM failed, so I havnt been able to try any games (sigh). Im downloading a no cd crack for one of my games right now so I can try it out, though, so I'll update this thread in a few mins
Just tried it out, no dice. Mouse still crashes. I can play a game such as jdoom (doom with a 3d accelerator wrapper that allows for mouselook and such), but when I try and run something like deus ex, the mouse quits.
I know it maybe unlikely mate, but are you running any firewall programs by any chance?. Reason being I've had this problem with various games due to Zone Alarm popping up a question about whether to allow the prog. access to the local network or Internet behind the actual game running (you can't see it), you can usually find issues about it in the ReadMe files of most new games....I do like Zone Alarm but that is a pain in the ass...
I plugged my USB to PS2 converter plug onto my USB mouse, and guess what, it WORKS in games now. So that means the big problem now lies with the USB device in my computer. Has anyone ever heard of it fritzing out like that?
That's interesting, as I have an Asus AVZ266 mobo & suffered from probs with my optical MS Intelli Mouse too when plugged into my PCI USB card. It would work fine until I gave it a 'soft' reboot. At which point the mouse would stop responding until I took it out the USB port and plugged it back in again. Like you I'm now using the PS2 converter as I'm going through a monitor/mouse/kb switch, and have no probs with it at all (in windows or games). Could be an issue with the MS Intelli mice with the Asus mobo's then...
I don't waste my USB ports on mice and keyboards, I save them for other devices, like my zip drive and scanner.
Well then, it looks like we've possibly identified a hardware issue I'll drop a word off to the microsoft and Asus support lines.. not sure what good that will do though.
