i just bought a new graphics card and mobo, connected them up, the hard drive and dvd rom are connected by the same ide cable but i have a sata harddrive if i need it. the problem is i can boot to windows but only when the dvd rom is unplugged, but when i plug it in and reboot it goes to a black screen where it would normally load windows. can you help? im getting stressed, if you need any more info on the probem i could go into slightly more detail
I think this is an issue with your power supply. What PSU you got at the moment. Alternatively, try using your computer with HDD as a first boot device.
i have a 550watt dual fan psu so i hope its not that and i have tried my hdd as first boot device but when i plug in dvd rom it wont boot properly, il try it to make sure i did try it right thx, also my hard drive comes up as 3rd primary shouldnt it be 1st or is it just me
Karan, how on earth can this be a power supply problem? Do you know how much electricity a DVD-ROM drive uses? Not much, I can tell you. cx2006, I suspect you haven't configured the jumpers correctly on the DVD-ROM and Hard drive. Set the Hard Drive to Master and attach to the end of the IDE cable Set the DVD-ROM to Slave and attach to the middle of the cable
