Hello I am new to this forum,
I would like to partition my second hard drive using Partition Magic 8.0. I have a 40GB C drive System Original Main drive with Windows XP Home (NTFS) & all my files.
I also have a G drive page file 80Gb. (NTFS)
I would like to partition the second drive G drive.
I would like to setup G drive for Music, recording sequencing.
I need to know how to setup my partititons.
Which drive to put the swap file into & where is the swap file to move it?
I would like a setup with best performance using 2 drives.
I read partititoning the hard drives & giving the swap file a separate partititon 2GB makes your PC run better.
I don't want to partititon the main C drive because it may mess up the Windows XP Home startup files?
    Thank you for your help,
    AndrewV9

right, i think i know what you mean, your wanting to use a second HDD in XPh, if this IS what you want to do then after physically connecting you new HDD to your pc, then the HDD needs to be initialised, to do this, boot up as normal (with HDD connected) then Start > Run type "diskmgmt" <enter> near the top of window you'll see your current HDD (C: drive) and below that will be your new HDD & CD drives, right click your new drive and select initialise, then reboot & all should be ok

Reply AndrewV9 I already have the 2nd hard drive installed on my Primary slave cable as G drive Page file. C drive is System file with NTFS. Both run as NTFS Windows XP Home?
I would like to partititon the G drive only using Partititon Magic 8.0 & into 3,4, or 5 partititons. I would like to have one partititon for swap file in G drive,
one for music programs & I read you can make a small partition for recording cdrw. I use Nero software, so do you make the partition & add the nero software to that one. Does this make recording to cdrw better?

I would like to have 2 hard drives with best performance?

right, how many IDE connectors is there (per cable) ? 3 or 2,
most IDE cables have 3 but some have 2,1 to plug into mobo, 1 to plug into IDE device (master, opposite to mobo and 1 (in middle of cable) to connect slave

generall i think the swapfile should be 2.5 times your amount of RAM
i will not make any differance to the burning performace, unless you use a faster drive with a faster interface, you can change the burn settings in nero it also test the drive to see which is faster, but to be honest CD-RW disks burn much slower than a HDD, so putting it on your fastest drive doesn't make any dirrerence
