this is causing me some issues now

ok i am running XP pro service pack 2, that has just had the genuine licence update notice. i use mozilla firefox for net browsing not explorer.

i have noticed that iexplore.exe has been using up my resources so have got rid of AVG and installed blueyonder pc guard, straight away explorer wants to connect so i have blocked it, now when running process explorer.

internet explorer is fighting constantly to get on.

if i delete the explorer.exe from c:/program files/internet explorer it replaces itself after 5 seconds.

currently doing a full scan with pc guard.

help can't find anything helpfull on the net

Hmm...interesting problem. That's one of the reasons why I hate Microsoft. Windows doesn't like you not using its applications. Sigh...

Does Internet Explorer really take up much in the way of resources, or is it just annoying because it constantly pops up? And you say it keeps on installing itself if you delete it? Try going into the Windows folder and find some key file of Internet Explorer. If you have to, use the Search option and see what you can find. If you can find a key file, maybe you can delete it and get rid of IE forever. I know it isn't a great solution..let's see...

Remove IE from Windows 2000 at install
NewsForge | Replace and disable Internet Explorer now

The second site looks to be exactly what you need. Enjoy!

i didn't think you could entirly remove internet explore from XP as far as i'm aware it's an integral part of XP just set mozilla to your default browser, that should stop IE popping up

iexplore should not be asking for access if its not running. Now if you're sure that there are no instances of it running, (it may be integrated into some cheap 3rd party apps) then you may want to suspect spyware/virus. Check with ad-aware personal, and spybot s&d.

iexploer.exe is a virus or trojan

TrendMicro has a free on-line scanner you can use.

If you don't have an anti-virus, I suggest you get one now. AVG and Avast! both work well and have free versions (they don't have tech support unless you pay). For Spyware removal, get [google]Spybot Search & Destroy[/url].

avg doesn't pick up anything, just installed blueyonder pcguard, its found bits avg has missed, and mozilla is my defualt.

internet explorer has been deselected in add/remove.

main problems are the system resources it takes up, CPU graphs spike to 80-90% constantly. i use process explorer to suspend it but it's still in the memory trying to do something!!

    will give trend a try!

    update :

trend house call locked up with my cpu alarm going off!

temp continued to rise even tho i closed the mozilla page down, CTRL,ALT,DEL and ended process iexplore.exe, and temps plummet!

the mem usage from iexplore.exe just continues to increase till it gets to the point where running programs lock up

will restart trend tommorow when i can keep an eye on it.

as for spy bot and adaware already run them to no success!

ok desktop locked up again, wouldn't do load anything other than task manager, i had suspended iexplore.exe from process explorer.

in order to reactivate the desktop i deleted iexplore.exe from the processes, another iexplore reappeared this one active and desktop resumed activities again but then i noticed on my keyboard 100% cpu usage, temp rising again nothing running whatsoever

deleted iexplore.exe again and i have the spikes again.

getting desperate now, can't find anything on google nor does virus, malware checkers etc find anything either!

First of all I would say, take a backup of all your important data before your computer gets locked up completely.
Then do all your treatments.......I have found something which can be useful for you, it says "Run a Free System Scan for iexplore.exe Related Errors". I clicked on it and on the next page it says "Free Registry Scan". I want you to go and check this page. It looks worthy~!

it finds 215 errors in the registry apparently.

will only fix 15 of them, then it wants me to buy the full version.

funnily enough it wasn't a suprise that bit as there is alot of this i've found like this.

    thanks anyway tho!

If you want a free registry cleaner, try CCleaner

    IEXPLORE = Internet Explorer.

Unless some adaware has attached itself to Internet Explorer, I think your computer is OK.

By the way, it is not possible to completey remove Internet Explorer from Windows. The only thing that gets uninstalled when selected through the add/remove programs applet is the Internet Explorer desktop shortcuts!

Download Adaware SE Personal and let it do a scan on your computer.
Ditch AVG because it's crap and download Avast 4.7 Home Edition. I have links to both programs in my signature.

Well, this problem has just about every single symptom of a virus. Get Avast like megamaced said. I use it and it is easily as good as any of the other av programs.

    right thanks all

haven't got a clue what it was but anyways, it's gone now, flattened and reloaded. i doubt there would of been any way around it.

reloaded with genuine windows now so maybe it was that in the end.

    thanks again all
