If you're booting the system without beeps, the RAM may be good, however, it may need a voltage bump. By default, it should be 2.6V, and you should be able to bump it up to 2.7 or 2.8 without problems. If it's not high-performance RAM, then do NOT go above 2.8V unless you want to fry your RAM. This should be under Frequency/Voltage Controls, but it may be under Advanced Chipset Options.
RAM errors can also be symptoms of other problems on the memory buss, so while it's likely that the RAM is the problem, you should not count out a motherboard or even configurational problem. Try using the RAM in another working system and test it there, and if you get no errors your system could be misconfigured for the RAM or you may even have a bad motherboard.
ok first ill try to boost the money voltage up to 2.7 - 2.8 and test again if that dont work ill try a differnt ram chip and see if it shows and errors if not apper then i have my bad peice of hardware and ill replace it and see if it cures the random reboots but i have 2 monatoring programs to see the temp 1st bois 2nd speedfan so i know these ant the best temp reading things but there both show load temp t 42c and ilde at around 35c and the graphics cads around 48c and the boards around 42 i think any way i dont think its too hot is it so im gonna replace the ram first system config: motherboard- asrock something cpu - amd athlon 2.0ghz ram - 512mb elixir pc3200 400mhz hdd - maxtor 60gig anything else you need to know just ask
ok well ant this strang ok first i power down a remove the ram and put it in slot 2 power up, do memtest fine but i realize that is running at 133mhz instead of 200mhz but oh well so i cary on not error by the way from memtest and i cheak that its running at 133 trough cpu-z and i wanna know y this is??????? i have changed it in the bois and im confused here are some pics to help you
You did Save and Exit, right? You also might want to make sure the memory timings are set for 3-3-3-8. Also: What motherboard do you have, specifically? Some chipsets will not work with certain lower timings, so that may be a factor. If you're unsure, you can look on your motherboard for the name. It's frequently listed between the expansion slots.
yer i saved and exited and my motherboard is a asrock k7nf2-raid and yer acroos the front of the box its got dual ddr400 and it supports 266/333/400 and ill try and change my memory timmings in bois right?? oh and i dont get a chocie of ram voltage its syimply normal high or auto thx for any help
That's what I thought. The nForce 2 chipset your motherboard uses has issues running CAS 3 timings. Neither one in itself is bad, but the nF2 simply does not play well with CAS 3 timings, and that's what timings your RAM works on @ DDR400 speeds. However, there's some light here. The nForce 1/2 performs best with the RAM:FSB ratio set 1:1. Setting the RAM speed higher, oddly enough, will lower performance a little. My guess is that your CPU works with a 133MHz (DDR266) FSB, and that's why the BIOS defaults to it. You may have changed the RAM:FSB ratio before to 2:3 or something which allowed the RAM to work at DDR400. However, given the nF2's inability to play with CAS 3 timings, that's probably the reason you were experiencing issues.
mmm soz to tell you but no my cpu dont dits running at 166fsb * by a 11.5 or 12 multiplyer does it change any thing or should i just set it to 1:1 still or should i play with the cas ect
Set it to 1:1 and leave the timings at Auto. I'd only play with them if you continue to have issues. You said your CPU is a 2GHz part. If your FSB is 166 (DDR333), then you should use the 12.0x multiplier...unless you want to run the CPU slower than it's stock speed.
ye soz 12 i only cheaked once and must of miss read soz and i cant find anything to do with fsb:dram setting in my bois ???? if so why and if there is wat am i looking for (title) thx
The FSBRAM ratio sets what the memory speed is in relation to the CPU speed. It may be labled something like CPU:RAM, CPU:Memory Clock, FSB: Memory Clock...something along those lines. It would most likely be under Frequency/Voltage Controls---and possibly in a submenu---or in Advanced Chipset Features.
nope couldnt find anything only things i found is the voltage setting which anrt propa (high, normal, low) so i think the bois is really crapy mmm and it says that my ratio cpu:dram is 5:4 (in cpu-z) but i cant find it any where ill find out my bois version and tell you but in the mean time any help would be wonderful
