I have a Netgear DG834G which I have my laptop plugged into, and my PC upstairs uses the WG311 network card. I have no problem with sharing my ADSL connection. Seems solid enough, and rarely ever drops a connection. The same used to be the case for my file sharing. I could see the shared volumes on both systems and easily transfer files from one to another. However, this has suddenly ceased to work. I have not changed any settings, yet I can no longer transfer files from one system to another. What could have caused this, and is there any way to simply get this working again? I recall getting an error message last time I was tranferring a file, something about not having 'permission' or something. Then I literally saw the shared volumes disappear from 'My Network Places' and they have not reappeared since. I'm at a loss to explain how this has happened or what to do to fix it. I can still access the internet just fine from both systems, and I cannot see any error messages or any settings which indicate the cause of this problem. Thanks in advance...

do you see a hand on the drive you are sharing with? You can also run the setup and reselecting the turn on file sharing option. hope this helps

Yeah, the hand is still on the drive on both systems. I have 'unshared' and 'shared' the drive again, but with no luck. I'm stumped!

That doesn't seem to have done anything. Although I have found a workaround. Entering the IP address in the RUN box works, but only from the Laptop, not vice versa. And there is still nothing in My Network Places. Well, atleast it's working to some degree.

Have you set any file sharing permissions?

The drives I want to share are shared - i.e I have used the 'Sharing and Security' settings to allow this. Beyond that, I don't think I've done anything else. It was working fine before though, and has been for months, so why it would suddenly cease to work is beyond me.
