my dvd drive no longer reads cds anymore. it reads dvds and plays them no problem. but music cds are a no-no
Try: right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware tab>Device manager>find your drive and uninstall it. Then go to control panel>add new hardware. If it asks you if you have already connected the hardware answer yes and let windows find the drive again.
Well sorry to be the one to tell you, but it looks as though your DVD-ROM drive is on it's way out. Somebody tell me if I am wrong, but DVD-ROM drives have two lasers - one for reading CDs and the other for DVDs. It appears as if the CD laser has died. I've had DVD-ROM drives in the past that were only able to play CDs but not DVDs. It's just a common sign of use/old age
:hi2: lame but effectife - blow inside the dvd drive! works with me when i get problems try it and tell me i'm wrong
