My computer takes so long to start up. About 10 mins. When I first noticed it, I did a format of the windows partition and reinstalled windows XP, on doing that the first start up was fast and I was smilling. The next start up took about 2 mins and it kept on increasing till it takes about 10mins to start up.It first slowly loads a white breaking line, then It just keeps loading the black screen with windows xp logo like forever, then it slowly enters windows. I don't know what is the problem. It is not adware or spyware or virus because this is a new install and immediately after installing, i installed an antivirus and an anti spyware. Thanks for your help
whats your specs ? which antivirus ? which adware ? have you a net connection ? how do you connect ? is it XP h SP2 ?
have u considered upgraging ur computer? i my office theres a computer with similar spec to yours and that takes ages to boot up too!
It shouldnt be dead slow straight after a fresh install even with a P3. How big is your harddrive? What type of partition? With a resonably low spec you will need to keep on top of what you have installed on your computer. A lot of the time its startup programs which slow you down. Run MSCONFIG and have a clear out.
Which part takes longer? The XP splash screen (with the blue bar scrolling across) or the welcome screen / desktop (after the splash screen)? Even my laptop only takes 2 or 3 minutes to boot xp (and it's similar specs).
Upgrading my computer is out of the question, I run some other computers in my house which are pentium 2s and they run windows xp with 96MB perfectly well and start up in 30s. The XP splash screen takes a lot of time to load as well as the welcome screen. I have cleared all the items in the startup for the msconfig and disabled all unneeded services. it's still the same. I am wondering if it's due to a probable hard disk crash? It's a 20GB hard drive with 2 partitions of 10GB. Thanks
Have you tried benchmarking the HDD to see how quick its running. Im affraid I cant suggest any benchmark program which dont cost money. Sandra is my personal favourite for quick benchmarks in windows. How does windows operate once its up? Slow or normal? Some programs can cause a lot of disruption to windows. I used to have random crashes and reboots which was down to program I usually installed soon after a format. I installed registry optimizer demo before and that doubled my boot time! I didnt even use it and it still did something. It might be a combination of the programs you use.
the programs run a bit sluggishly but not as when it was booting up fast. the programs run a bit sluggishly but not as when it was booting up fast. I would check up the programs run a bit sluggishly but not as when it was booting up fast. I would check up any harddisk benchmark program i can lay my hands
