I'm currently attempting to build a computer for the first time. I bought all of the parts: Processor: Intel Pentium D 805 Smithfield Motherboard: Intel BOXD945GNTL Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G ATX Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB Memory: CORSAIR 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) DVD Rom drive: BenQ Black Burner I received all of the parts and began assembling. Everything seems to be in place, however when I boot up the machine there are four beeps. The machine begins to load up the BIOS, and then it just shuts down. Does anyone have any idea as to why this might be happening? Thanks.
Have a look at this. You will need to know the make of your BIOS (eg American Megatrends or Phoenix). If your BIOS is neither AMI nor Phoenix, type BIOS beep codes into google.
use this to itendify your BIOS then so here to identfy the problem, this beep code list also includes AWARD BIOS's EDIT: and other BIOS's
Maybe the problem is that his FSB for that cpu is 533MHZ, and the motherboard only supports 1066/800MHz FSB, unless that 533mhz is x 2 to make 1066, it's just wierd how it says 533mhz, thats the fsb of old celerons. Looked at the reviews, seems some people complain about the 533mhz FSB. Yea, your CPU does have 533Mhz FSB, and your motherboard only supports 1066/800MHz, i dunno if a bios update will allow it to support 533MHz FSB, but looks like your going to need either new motherboard or CPU.
If I disconnect the power to the processor from the motherboard, the beeping does go away. I would have to conclude that this is probably why. Would it make sense that since they are not compatible that it shuts down 5-30 seconds after boot up?
I dunno, i would of thought that there would be a message like, this CPU is not compatible with this mother etc.. and not just shutting down, but its a possibility.
I'm not sure how to do that. Could you fill me in? Thanks. Anyway, a few updates. I did a few more tests...when the machine first boots up, it runs for approximately 20-30 seconds, and then shuts off. Immediately after shutting off, I turned it on again. It only took 10-20 seconds to shut off the second time. About 5-10 seconds the third, etc. Eventually, it got to the point where it was shutting off imediately after being turned back on. Also, when I do not plug in the 2x2 cord from the power supply into the mobo that gives power to teh processor, the processor runs and the computer does NOT shut off. Any clue what that means?
wat psu hav u got u hav to connect the 4 pin connector to allow the p4 processors to get enough power. did it worl properly?
ah, it's still a possibility that its becouse your CPU aint supported by your motherboard, from what i have seen, it aint, use another computer, go to your mobo's website, then get the bios update, and put the bios update onto floppy, there should be instructions on your mobo website.
