Hi, first off, i dont know if this is illigal, it doesent seem to be as you still have to use your LEGIT CD KEY, but if it is violating anyhting, sorry, and please remove it.

Anyway, i found this software, its called Nlite, this enables you to make a custom Windows xp cd, all you need is your origional windows xp cd, you then copy the whole contents of the cd onto your hard drive, when in Nlite you then browse and look for the copied xp folder, once its found you can go on to do a whole lot of stuff.

    These include:
Intergrating a service pack into xp, i intergrated service pack 2, i chose not to have the security center, and i can disable firewalls and stuff like that etc..
Intergrate drivers, i looks for the .inf files in the sound driver, ide driver and ethernet driver etc.., i then placed these in nlite, now these drivers are intergrated into windows xp, as soon as xp is installed i can use sound and other things etc..
Remove components: this removes lots of windows components, infact i got rid of about 100mb worth from the cd by removing all languages and keyboard layouts that i did not need!, using the remove components i got the 680mb instalation down to 240mb, and all the things in windows that i needed still works, just loads of rubbish and other services were removed.
In Nlite there is an unattended setup option, on this you enter your CD KEY, admin name, password, computer name, your ip and primary and secondry DNS ip's, and default gateways so you can connect to the internet straigt away, also regional options aswell, this way when you usually run the xp setup, you have to fill all this in, you dont now, even the boxes dont come up, onces you get onto the xp isntalation its all done by itself.

A while ago i posted on HWF asking if there was any software to get rid of all the rubbish windows installs, and this does it, it also makes windows go super fast, when it intergrated service pack 2, it slipstreams it too.

I would say this app is pretty decent, anyone who is tearing there hair out with how slow windows xp is could use this app. It's a shame that with this app you cant add more applications in, so then you could create an instalation so that you install, and your ready to do, your firefox browser is installed, your faviourate games etc.., would save alot of time.

the link to there website is nLite - Deployment Tool for Unattended Windows.

Sorry if this has gone in the wrong place, was not sure were to place it.

Shouldn't this be in the free software thread?

I tried nLite once, but XP came up with an error when trying to install,, so I gave in.

As far as I am aware, the software is legal.

I've seen quite a few of these programs that allow you to create a customised Windows XP installation CD. All they are simply offering, is the ability to add and remove a few programs from the default installation

You will need more then a simple 3rd party tool to remove all the bloat in Windows

Little does anyone know it seems, but Microsoft have provided their own software to do this, and it's stored on the Windows XP Professional CD! Of course, being Microsoft, the feature is tucked away so nobody can find it...

Microsoft did not have to make the product if he needs to hide it.

Don't get your hopes up, it's not very good at all and you will have to reinstall Windows once you've created the CD  Not only that, but you still need to have 3rd party disk duplication software.

I can explain a bit more if you like, but if I were you, I'd use free 3rd party software like the one Willz suggested

Yea, i seen that software that is on the xp pro cd, and all that does is fill in all the details you would normally do in instalation.

Also, i found a slipstreamed version of windows made in nlite, and the size went from about 550Mb to about 120mb.

With Nlite i removed, msn explorer, all the games, paint, wordpad, calculator, help and support, tour of windows, media player, a part of internet explorer, all the languages, all the backgrounds, windows xp luna theme, all the other themes, the default graphics drivers, changed my computer and my pictires and my documents to menu's, removed most stuff in communications and system tools, windows messenger, can even remove litrally everyhting that you need to even run windows!

If you wanted, it can remove openGL support in windows too, bit wierd, but it does :s

Even on nlite there is the Definitive how to guide: Unattended windows, it uses Nlite and uses XP SP2 Deployment Tools.
Nlite even creates the iso for you, all you need to do is burn.

I suggest looking at the guide if you want to slip stream windows, i am going to follow it all, seems quite intresting.

There is also a guide showing you how to do silent installs of applications using switches, in the windows xp setup, i did not use a silent switch, but i installed Realtek Audio drivers right in the xp setup, and it came up as if you were in windows, apparently with some apps, they can start in the setup if you dont use a kill thing, but you have to make scripts etc.. for silent switches.

Everything you need to know is on the nlite forums.

Check out the Definitive how to guide: Unattended windows

Since doing these "CLAIT" exams at college, i have found it quite intresting to follow guides, i am going to attempt to go through the whole guide and see if i can succesfully create a tottally unattended windows install, with applications installed with windows such as, IEX7, MP11, audio, graphics, ide, windows blinds, msn messenger. I am going to try to learn how to make these silent switches and scripts, then i dont need to look on the application forums on MSFN to copy there silent switches, i would rather make my own.

Here is some screens of Nlite.
