This is probably the only time i'll ever want to install an MS product for its quality. I've been having a lot of problems with having exceptionally small fonts in Mandriva, and it was really putting strain on my eyes. So I recommend you install the ms core fonts, the instructions are : Microsoft's TrueType core fonts on rpm based systems You'll need to type a few commands to build the rpm, but follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. It has to be like this because it's illegal to distribute ms fonts, but the script gets around that. I love Arial.
*Slap* Arial is such a boring font. I prefer Comic Sans for genral usage, and I also download a lot of free ones.# Btw, thanks for the link, I might use it when I get Slackware fully setup.
Mandriva doesn't have Microsoft's font's in the repositories? Even SuSE has it, and we all know how bad their repositories are Personally I don't miss Microsoft's fonts at all. Although I do have them installed on one of my computers for compatibility reasons with OOo. I'm quite fond of the fonts that ship with Linux, like Nimbus Roman and DejaVu Sans
Heh I never tried it. I probably should have, but I thought it was illegal for them to be distributed. Heh actually there is, but its a package that includes a script to download the fonts, extract them from the .exe cab file, build an rpm and then install it. You can download the msttcorefonts package from the mandriva repositories, (may need to add SoS repos, not sure) and then go to /var/tmp/msttfonts/ directory. Run the shell script and it will do the rest.
[ot] Well, I guess you have something in common with the 86-year-old lady who makes up bingo fliers for the rotory club. [/ot]
What a coincidence, C¦NET has a small feature dedicated to DejaVu Sans. It goes on to say that a number of distributions plan to use it as their default display font. It is currently the default display font in (K/X)ubuntu.
I think I tried and no, they do not.... Another thing which bugged me was that I could not install Hebrew support from my repositories. It is in the list but when I try and install it it says something like - ":swear: off! Not interested..." if I remember correctly....
