Hey, I built this system last year, but I have noticed that it cannot play many newer games. Here are a quick look at my current specs:

    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.20 GhZ
    1.00 GB RAM
    GeForce FX 5500 AGP 8x

I just tried to run Oblivion, and it was HORRIBLE. Unplayable. So I was wondering, with all the dual core, DRR2, PCI-X 16, should I not spend $150 on a new video card because my system is becoming fast outdated? Is my system good enough to last another year or so if I bought a new Video card? I would like to play Oblivion, and Half Life 2 on a FPS better than 17.

So new system or new video card?

    I appreciate all your help.

I'd say a new video card, although as you have AGP it won't be as good as a PCI-E (btw it's not PCI-X) card. What's your budget for upgrading?

your system specs are adequate to handle oblivion, just not your graphics card. If your budget can't stretch, i suggest you go for the 6600GT. There's no need for a new system just as yet. the 6600GT is fast enough and to be honest, your system is better than mine, minus your gfx card. overall, you don't need to blow your cash on a new system, when you can just buy the 6600GT and be able to play any of the latest games around and not be disappointed.

    Ok, sounds good; Thanks!

I am planning on getting this card: XFX Geforce 6800XT PVT42KVDE3 Video Card - Retail at Newegg.com

Its pretty reasonable, and I am considering getting dual monitors flat screens, so that works great for it.

Possible this one to replace my ancient, and gigantic, 19" CRT. Its time I put it to rest.

I guess I will wait for the prices to come down in Dual Core/DRR2 and then ill upgrade. Would you say, with the upgraded video card, my computer could handle vista?

It really good to seen that ppl are coming round to the wonders of lcd. Im curious to know what you gonna do with dual lcds though. Ive seen some1 play ut2004 with a 19" in the middle and a 17" on either side. Are you going for something like that :)

Ha, most likley Ill use it alot for programming. I like to keep a reference/api doc open when programming, and with dual LCD, I can have the docs open on one window and the code on the other.

Ah well its a little less exiting than a paneramic veiw when gaming but hey if you can afford to splash out then go for it. Your desktop is gonna look awsome
