I want to replace my ide maxtor 60 gb with my new seagate 320 sata II hd, and put all the info/data/files/folders that are in my maxtor and bring it over to my seagate. I thought seagate had a wizard for this... Downloads Index - Seagate Technology ... but its only good for adding a second drive. I want to replace my hd, what am I suppose to do??

    Thanks.

Copy all the files onto a DVD? You could also install an O/S on your new hard drive, then put the old one back in but set it to slave (change the jumpers on the back), and copy all the files off the old drive onto the new one.

I heard you first have to umm..., defrag or...iuno, i can't remember the term, but don't you have to do something to the new hard drive before you copy things over to it

    Thanks.

im not sure, i think so, if thats what you have to do before copying things over then i guess that was the term; with a copy software would it prompt me to format first then do all the necessary stuff, to copy everything over

    Thanks.

    sooooooooo confused.....:eek:hah:
