A friend told me that having a really good hdd can make a significant difference in system speed. The speed of the pross does not matter if your hdd is too slow. he also said that your hhd's slow down to the slowest ones speed.

Pls set it out for me. What difference does the hdd make and what brands/modles to look for.

i think your friend was refering to the physical spinning speed of a HDD (e.g. 5400rpm & 7200rpm) bassically this doesn't affect the actual speed of the drive, yes a 7200rpm drive can read more info quicker, but if it can only transfer (say 33Mb/s) through a standard (40 pin) IDE cable, data can only flow as fast as the slowest component will allow it to flow

Although CPU and memory are probably the most important aspects of system performance, a fast HDD can help improve things further.

These days, you should be looking at a SATA hard drive with at least 7,200 RPM spindal speed
