Wonder if there is anyone out there who can help??? On trying to open up word 2002, window installer opens up and searches for about 10 secs with its mag glass the comes up with the message, patch package could not be opened, verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact application vendor to verify this is a windows installer patch package!!! Has anyone had this problem if it can be solved can you let me know what to do in baby steps as I am not too clever on the pc. Many thanks in anticipation of a successful outcome to my thorn in my side at present
Welcome to HardwareForums indirestraits  I have no idear how to correct that error, but even if somebody else here does i would reccomend that you scrap word and use OpenOffice, which is a free open source alternitive to Microsoft Office Link: OpenOffice.org: Home
I am not 100% sure what the problem is, but it could be that an Office update (delivered through Windows Automatic Updates) did not install successfully. If thats the case, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Tick the 'Show Updates' box Uninstall all the Microsoft Office updates you can see
Reinstallation of MS office will cure this problem hopefully. [ot]According to some latest news, microsoft has lauanched a file in automatic updates, which pops up a windows saying "Buy the original windows copy (something like that)" if you have a pirated copy and I think its same for office as well[/ot]
[ot] It's called Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications. LOL, what's the advantage for us? Anyway, this wouldn't effect his installation of Word[/ot]
[ot] There is no loss or advantage for us as long as we have have a OEM copy. I just pointed out this coz if he might got a pirated copy and windows has launched a Office Genuine Advantage tool, then it is obvious to recieve these kind of errors. [/ot]
[ot] WGA did have a real advantage for users, its gona stop millions of them from using windows (I dont see what microsofts problem is, at least there not using linux! PS converted another the other day, he's very happy with ubuntu on his laptop! (and was very pleased when i told him he didnt need a virus scanner ) [/ot]
