Greetings to everybody this is my first post here hope you'll could help me!!!! I'm having this problem guys hope you could help me.....Well to start off my initial setup has a HDD attached to the primary IDE and a CD-ROM drive attached as a slave on the primary IDE. When I got myself a new CD-RW drive i tried installing it to the secondary IDE as the master and the CD-ROM drive as the secondary IDE slave. When I booted up my PC again it prompted me to press F2 to enter set-up or press F11 to display boot menu.........which my PC didn't do before I installed the CD-RW drive. So I entered set-up and tried configuring the BOOT SEQUENCE menu and designated my HDD as the first boot device, the CD-RW drive as my second boot device......After I saved and exited the set-up menu, the PC booted up again but it didn't boot from my HDD it only displayed the two prompts mentioned earlier......Again I tried returning to my initial setup of one HDD and one CD-ROM (but this time I replaced the CD-ROM with the CD-RW drive) in a single cable in the primary IDE and tried booting up again....and surprisingly it booted up directly to the HDD.... Can anybody help me with this coz in my current set-up I only have 1 CD-ROM (CD-RW) but I want to install my old CD-ROM in my PC......can you help me with this guys? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!
First of all, Welcome to HWF ijuaneza Now continuing your problem... I think you need to setup the jumpers on both the Optical Drives properly... [link=http://www.hardwareforums.com/my-cd-rom-drive-13215/#post85142]Dave(named donkey) has explained here in a very good way[/link]... Hopefully that will sort out your problem. Otherwise, if you face any problem then scrap here and we will reply you further.
Thanks for your reply..... When you say jumpers do you mean the master, slave cable select jumpers? if that is what you mean karanislove I've already double checked them but still i still get those prompt whenever i install the additional CD-ROM........
No! No! I am not just talking about cables.... Here is an example picture of how to set up jumpers... It might also be shown on the top side of your Drive... [link=http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/ref/jumper_settings.html]Source of Data[/link]
karanislove I already checked the jumpers at the back of my cd drives...but yet i still get the same prompts......:x:
to solve this problem i hink you need to enter BIOS and automaticly detect HDD's and exit and save to CMOS, or enter BIOS (standard) then change all HDD's (primary master (IDE0) & slave (IDE1) secondary master (IDE2) & slave (IDE3)) to auto then save to CMOS and exit
Id try booting without either of the cd drives installed first and just the hdd on Primary Master. If you still have the same problem id then try changing the jumper from cable select to master, or vice versa. Some drives are funny like that.
thanks for ur reply guys.....i followed every tip u gave me and I think the one that solved the problem was changing to auto all the setting for the drives......
