My specs are on the side. I can run oblivion with everything maxed out with playable fps. AA4x too. I have a very average system in comparison to whats out there. So tell me, apart from the enthusiasts, benchmarking and the braging rights, what the point of these 500$+ cards is. I mean after a point you eyes cant pick up the fps difference. IDK....opinions?
I think it also depends on what resolution you play your games at e.g. 1920x1200 resolution would need a powerful card to have everything on high.
Yeah aside from bragging rights and mega resolutions there's not much left. There're probably there to get nVidia and ATI big bucks from those that "just need to have the best" and it's also worth nothing that the big deal $500 cards always come out before the sub $200 "bang for the buck cards". But otherwise I'd say it's for the longevity. If you wanted a card that'd last you for years spending $500 sort of makes sense.
I agree Ex, if you buy a card when it's new, it's lifetime (how long you can actually comfortably use the card) will probably be longer. There are exceptions to this, but for the most part I think it's true. And you can think of it this way, should I buy a $400 card now? Or pay $200 now and another over the next 2 years. The $400 card will give you that initial impact and probably last you 3 or 4 years. In the end you're probably paying the same, but you'll get more enjoyment out of the big one (plus you get those bragging rights )
