Actually you'd be really surprised, even the Core 2 Duo E6300 (at only 1.83Ghz I belive) can clock to 4Ghz on air if you're got a good mobo, ram, and some real know-how.
These dudes are pretty inthusiastic about it all. You'll find other articles about it too.

We'll you wouldn't probably get the on stock but a nicer 3rd party fan (as in dropping over $30 on one) would make it possible.
47* isn't great but it's not really threating. Also note that those readings aren't going to be that accurate inside the case with various other heatsources around it.

Herbert, you did imply that you case was preety messy in side, give the inside a good clean, tie all the wires back, get air to the cpu and mobo, get some good case fans in there, i really think you need to buy a new case, get one with a side windows too :good:

1.8ghz to 4ghz  woah, count me in for Core 2 Duo next upgrade, goodbye AMD, Intel is the best!, Intel has always been underrated, my Pentium 4 3ghz performs better in applications by quite a way than my 3700+

True, for Mp3 incoding and video work generally speaking a lot of people perfer Intel. And for such a cheap price I'm really looking into the Core 2 Duo E6300 as well. I mean $183! That's crazy.

i am considering ditching a graphics card upgrade, going for new mobo and core 2 duo E6600, but no Core 2 Duo mobos have AGP :(. You see Core 2 duo has really messed my plans, i was going to get, new graphics card, and PCI-E mobo, but i want new cpu now, so new card, CPU and Mobo , £450 upgrade minimum!

Would be same for you ex, new mobo, cpu and graphics card!, dunno if you would be going as high end on a card as i would be tho.

Yeah it's a hard one dude. I really don't have much cash and my parents are pretty much making me put all my earnings into the bank for College so upgrades are not looking good. Next summer is the soonest I could forsee which would be okay as that'd be when DX 10 cards are now mainstream and won't cost $600 or whatever. And there will be a good bunch of flashy new games games. The thing is I'll pretty much be upgrading everything then. I'd want a new case, new monitor, I'd need DDR2 ram, a new proc/mobo/gfx card like you said, and while my hard drive is new and large enough I'd kind of like a Raptor.

Yea, i think i will leave it to next summer too, the only upgrade i will be doing soon is getting a SATA 2 HDD as there backwards compatible with SATA right?, Next year, january or maybe the coming xmax, hopefully AMD is back on top, i will be going for AM2, AMD, 1gb DDR2 ram, and a PCI-E mobo with intergrated graphics for tempory period, that would mean my old rig (currently main) will be still my gaming rig, nice really, i will have almost 4 computers, and i dont plan on selling them, so i will eventually have lots.

You sound like me, I have the computer I'm on now, an old Sony that I don't use beside me (no OS), a P4 at my other side that only runs F@H 24/7, an old HP behind me (too terrible to even mess with, it has ME and 64 MB of SDRAM), and 3 empty cases. Then there is my mom's computer, my dad's work computer, and my dad's laptop. Hmm, maybe eBay would be a good idea right about now.

But enough about me, I think that sounds like a pretty sweet rig. You could run a 4x4 rig with an nVidia 8950 GTXXXXGTXGT (or whatever is out then). Well, the only thing I would say is, at that point I would probably go with 2 GB as performance benefits will probably start to be apparent in stuff other than BF2.

Yeah by then 2 gigs would be more the norm for gameing, it'll be pretty cheap by then too. But otherwise yeah things ought to be priced pretty low by then so we'll see cards like 8600GT's or whatever in the midrange lineup for around $200.

    I doubt it but hey there's 7600GT's now, it's a natural progression.
