I recently put together a new system. I know I should be getting better performance than I am on games. Like Oblivion, it runs about as well as on my older system. In the nVidia control panel my memory clock on my video card is reporting at 720mhz half of what it should be. What can I do to remedy this?

Being half of what it should be is normal, it's GDDR3 - DDR speeds are often quoted as half of what they are as the actually work on the rise and fall of the clock so that's normal.

    Now to the problem:
    1. Have ou got the latest drivers / patches for the game?
    2. Did your video card come with a power socket (6 pin for PCI-Express) and if so is your PSU connected to it?

What make and model is your PSU?

And when you say 'Better Performance' do you mean frames per second or quality settings etc etc.

Pretty much the same quality settings, with comparable frame rates to my old system, which is AMD Athlon xp 3200+ gig of ram and x850pro AGP. I thought this new card would own but i geuss not :(

edit: also poor performance in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic demo.

First of all, whats your computer specs?, oh there in my computer :p

I was thinking it might be the power supply, but it should be ok 2x 15A +12v rails. The 7900GT should be ALOT better than the x850pro.

What drivers are you using? the 93.31's? Many 7900 uses have reported problems with this set of drivers. Try the 84.21's or the Beta 93.33's.

yea, the latest drivers from ASUS, Would it be better to get the drivers from nVidia or ASUS. If you can ever download stuff from ASUS :S. I like ASUS but there website and tech support suck. And where could I download backdated drivers?

Look for drivers on NVIDIA Home , they're the ones making them.

:( The 8421 drivers helped a little. But not much. I do not know what is bottlenecking my performance. I know this rig can do much better than it is doing.

Well on a hunch i purchased a soundcard, cause while playing oblivion there were little sound glitches, now I am running it in HDR with low shadow filtering and im getting great performance, i rarely drop below 30 frames, only during battles and whatnot, and it never gets chuggy. HDR hurts my eyes though, so ill probably scale it back to bloom ;) anyways thanks to the people that helped.

drops below 30fps, for a 7900GT, i think thats too low lol, especially with low shadow filtering and HDR.

What sound card did you purchase?

Well, I decided to just order a new video card after reading forums and seeing that alot of people were having problems with their 7900gts. Bad batch of boards, bad power regulators. ASUS is being really stupid about admitting there is a problem with the card. Got an eVGA 7950gt KO. I will never buy another ASUS video card.
