well as im building my new rig . as iv bought a black case i wanna keep it all black so bought a sony dvd-rw and now need a normal rom drive so would it be worth buying a dvd-rom instead of a cd-rom as i presume some new games come on dvd discks so a normal cd-rom wont read them is this correct. can pick both up for about 20quid so no difference in price . so im really asking are dvd-roms better than cd-roms thanks gaz
Yes, Yes, Yes, and yes. Just stick with the DVD rom. CD roms are like the sega saturn, they were good until superseeded buy something better.
DVD formats hold 7 times (roughly) of the average CD-ROM per side. Couple this with the ability to read CD-ROMs, yeah, if you're going to have two optical drives, a DVD-ROM is a better move than a CD-ROM these days. Of course, keep in mind that any DVD burner out there these days can read and write CD's along with DVD's, so you wouldn't need to purchase a second optical drive.
generally for normal use you would only need a DVD +- RW, although i have a RW and a ROM (both DVD) but i hardly ever use the ROM drive
cool but my case has 4 slots in it and i dont want it looking bare so its only 12quid plus postage cant go wrong with that.
