Hi all, I have a P4 3ghz HT, with i think is a socket 478 (the one with the clip on arms on the left and right) and i can see a thermal speed regulator above the fan but the fan is always on full speed and its just too loud. anyone know why its always on max?
Id leave your cpu fan running at full whack and try to slow other fans down. If you really do need to make the cpu quieter buy a new fan. Silent ones dont cost that much. The chances are you cpu is a prescott (?) which run really hot. There a loads of posts here about hot prescotts, you even see people selling their cpus on ebay cos they run too hot. The last thing you wanna do is decrease your cooling efficiency!
My prescott cpu ran hot, but was never at full speed all the time!, i was idling at 52degrees, yet i get worried when i get to 45degrees load with my AMD cpu lol
If you are using stock cooler this is not max. I have the same CPU as you and my stock cooler was always on 3200-3400. Temps were not bad. I think it was 50C under pressure and about 40-45C idle. However, if I remember rightly, the stock cooler can rise a hell of a lot more!!! hah: So bottom line, stock cooler is loud. Freezer 4 is cheap and quiet! See those temps fall!!!
