looks like i need a new mobo what i have is an intel socket 478 micro atx with an 845gv chip set does anyone know what other board will work .it has a bestex 300 watt psu.an a celron 2.8 processor.thanks
Have you got a graphics card or do you use the onboard card? Also is your celeron a 400mhz fsb or 533mhz? And what ram? The ram cause you problems if you have sd ram. Im having difficulty finding skt478 boards. The fact that you need a micro atx board with possibly onboard graphics is making it hard. pc133 might land you with an ebay jobby. I used to have the asus p4b which was (and is; a mate has it now) a great motherboard. No onboard graphics though.
sorry will this be any help it's an emachine .with this make up BOM for : T2542 Part Category Description Part Number Speaker: SPEAKER, SP-20A 1690 MB: MB,IMPERIAL-GV (845GV) MBEM100614IM Chassis: Chassis, Nexgen 2 main chassis frame CPU Fan Type: Fan,H/S Cel-P4 2.6 462P 100611 Mouse: Mouse, silver wheel 1689 CPU: CPU,CELERON 2.5G 478P 128K F400 FDD Model: FDD, SFD-321B/LTGNQ FDEM2097BLCK Video: Video, integrated Power Supply: PS, 250 watt 1670 Modem: Modem,Conexant, fax/modem v.92 56K LAN: LAN, 10/100 integrated HDD: HDD, 40GB 5400rpm WD 1360 Keyboard Model: K/B:KB-9908,EN104K,PS/2,EMA,C-blk/slvr 2422 ODD1: 48X CDRW (48X24X48) 2434 Memory: Mem, DDR-RAM 256MB (Max. 2GB) 1848 __i just changed the psu to a 300watt because the 250 went out and i think it took the mobo with it.________________
mobo may not be dead, try storting the pins out on the mobo where the power switch plugs onto, Emachines are very good machines (after you have replaced the underpowered PSU & replaced the dodgy power switch (front panel)
tried that didn't help any. so i think it's the mobo since nothing happens no beep or lights.i jumped the green and black wires on the old psu any the fan didn't turn on the old psu so i di the same on the new psu and the fan on that will spin when jumped but thats all that happens
sorry, but did you mean the CPU fan twitched when you plug in the power ? is there a power switch on PSU ? if yes is it turned on ? sorry, don't want to make you seem thick, just want your problem sorted P.S. happenen to me a while ago
oh sorry i meant the fan on the psu not the cpu .other then that nothing.i was told to jump those two wires to test the psu.
personally, ive never heard that, so don't know if its right or not with that setup i would think you'd probably need a PSU just over 300W, the Targus TG330 UI, (thats what i've got) but not sure if targus are still trading a decent 400W PSU would be more than adequate for that system (unless you upgrade) i don't think there is a way of checking if mobo or PSU are knackered (except swaping them out, a good PSU will outlive many upgrades, so it's worth while getting the best you can afford like an Antec TP ll 550W is the daddy of PSU's if i were you i'd get a good PSU then start diagnosing
either way i'm looking for a mobo to replace this one MB: MB,IMPERIAL-GV (845GV) MBEM100614IM .the chip is an 845gv .what can i use as a replacement don't want to order the wrong thing.thanks
Cost.com: eMachines Motherboard Replacement Imperial GV Here is a direct replacement. It might be worth considering because your system restore disk will qork with this board, but not the any other board. But its in America! This board fills your requirements too. Asrock P4I65G skt 478 i865G 800FSB dual ch.DDR400 8x AGP +64MB on board VGA +SATA RAID +LAN +USB2.0 +6 ch. audio micro ATX motherboard available at Micro Direct Ltd UK Though on this site and this one.... Asrock P4i65G Socket 478 --- asrock motherboards 478 audio lan ddr400 sata, asrock p4i65g socket 478 , dual agp vga raid micro atx from aria .co. uk It doesnt say anything about supporting a 400mhz fsb. It has an intel 865G chipset which according to the intel website does support a 400mhz fsb. Intel® 865G Chipset The two places which sell this board do say that it supports the willamette core which was only made wh=ith a 400mhz fsb. Your probably best off contacting whoever you buy it off just to make sure they know you need a motherboard which has a 400mhz fsb option in BIOS. Same oddoty on the ASRock website, nothing about a 400mhz fsb but says it supports the willamette core. ASRock -> Products -> P4i65G There is also this board..... Asrock P4VM800 VIA P4M800 skt 478 800FSB dual ch.DDR400 8x AGP +64MB on board VGA +SATA RAID +LAN +USB2.0 +6 ch. audio micro ATX available at Micro Direct Ltd UK Its pretty well the same as the last board only it has a VIA chipset and not an intel one. The ASrock website says this one does support the 400mhz fsb ASRock -> Products -> P4VM800 Im quite surprised how rare the skt478 boards are. I though id find mroe than this. There probably are more but seeing as the ASRock ones are so cheap (not always a bad thing! I paid about £40 for my Asus skt478 and its the best board ive had. Its gotta be said the board which would come in second was one out of an emachine!)
thanks for all the info.now i have something to work with .i'll call around and see who has the mobo that supports 400 fsb again thanks ...
