Hello everyone I need I little help here I have a 1.6 mhz 266 fsb duron And a 830CF rv.3 motherboard. my problem is the cpu come up as unknown cpu type And the pc would freeze in 10 minutes if some one can tell me what to do I would greatly appreciated I really would like to keep this mobo with this duron 1.6 it works very fast but like I said would freeze in like 10 minutes any help would be appreciated thank you.
Do you have a Jetway motherboard? According to this, they do support that CPU. However, you probably have to update the BIOS to support Athlon XP processors. The earlier BIOSes don't support the XP, and 1.6~GHz Durons are based on XPs. If you do have a Jetway board, you can get the latest BIOS and drivers from here.
I dont Know who made this mobo in the manual cover it only says this "MOTHERBOARD the brand you can trust" thank you for that webpage I will flash the bios and see what happens.I see in that webpage that the AXDAxxxxDLT3C/1.50V is not supported maybe I have a duron with 1.5 core v
I flashed the bios with 830cha10 update now the bios says unkown cpu 1900+ Im reloading win xp I will see if it freezes like it did before
I've got an Abit KG-7 RAID board with it latest BIOS and a Duron 1.4. Gives me the same issue with unknown CPU, but works fine. You might wanna keep an eye on the temps too.
That's true B. However, the Athlon XP 1900+ (Palamino) and the Duron ~1.6GHz are identical except for the amount of L2 cache. Even if the BIOS has not been designed to specifically identify the 1.6GHz Duron, it has been designed to support the 1900+ Palamino, so it should work on generic terms.
Hi evryone this is my cpu heatsink and fan Fan Everything works ok except that it freezes.Sometimes It goes for 45 minutes to an hour with out freezing I have check the temp on the cpu and says 90F but thats when the pc starts so I dont know if the cpu is overheating after it starts I will try sandra sysoft and see what it tells me. thank you everyone for your replys
Ok this is what I have figured out so far from the replys the 1.6 duron is the same as the 1900+ except for the L2 cache so my motherboard would support a 1900+ except the ones that have the 1.5v core voltage so if my duron is 1.6ghz and has 1.5v core voltage it means it would not get supported
I think I will just order a xp 2200+ they only come in two flavors of voltage 1.60v and 1.65v so there should be no problem with that. Again thank you every one for helping me out
I'm not sure with your motherboard. You'll have to look at the manual for that. Likely it's BIOS adjustable, though. Yes, you can run a higher voltage than the CPU's stock voltage, but there's not a need to do this unless you're overclocking.
You're welcome. I have some closing advice for you though. If I were you, I'd replace the motherboard before looking into a CPU replacement. Jetway certainly doesn't make the best MoBo's, and SiS doesn't make the best chipsets either. If I was you, I'd buy an ABIT or MSI motherboard that's 100% compatible with your current CPU, and upgrade from there if necessary. But if you do want to keep your existing MoBo, I'd just buy the cheapest AthlonXP your board is compatible with. All the best, -A.T.
