Hi. I have a certain problem with my Macintosh Performa 475...the screen won't come on. I've eliminated any bad memory, the CPU and the port seems fine. I've tried using both a 15" Gateway TFT Flat panel and a 19" Futura Monitor. Both work fine with the VGA-to-G3 (pc-mac) 15-pin converter I bought on eBay a few months back. When I boot the computer for the first time, I hear the startup sound and that's it....nothing on the screen. I made sure the connection was secure and wiggled it around numerous times. But the monitor still says to check the connection. Anyone have any ideas about this? It's driving me crazy trying to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Well, if it's using a video card instead of on-board video, you might want to make sure the card is secure. If it's not in fully, then you can run into problems. There's also a possibility the video card is shot. The difference between the Mac an PC versions of video cards is the video connectors. I would think that a PC card would work just fine, but don't quote me on that one. I'm not sure how old the performa is, but if it's been built in the past 10 years, it should have PCI slots, possibly AGP.
It doesn't have either. It's on-bard video and I think this computer is from 1990? Not exactly sure, but too thin to support cards anyway.
That is old. You could try and see if you could find a new motherboard on eBay, but otherwise, if you don't have any expansion slots of any sort, you're SOL. There may be some low-profile cards available, but again, if it's 15-years old, who knows. PC hardware that's 10-years old is hard to find, and I would imagine it wouldn't be any easier with Mac hardware.
