its been happening every once in a while. this is the second time that it has happened that it hasn't gone away with a restart or 2 a link if it won't remote... http://img15.photobucket.com/albums/v45/hlidd/fucked_up_screen.jpg any one else have this? my card is an ATI All-in-WOnder 9800 pro. drivers are updated on a regular basis.
no... it is not over clocked. if i remember correctly, it is around 80-114 degrees... but i have been using the system for almost a year, yet it is just now becoming a reoccuring problem that i don't know how to fix
It could be a few things. Judging by your (very helpful) screenshot, something is happening in video memory. You could have some corrupted video RAM, but this is highly unlikely unless you've been seriously overclocking your card, your power supply is not reliable, or your chassis runs unusually hot. More likely it's a problem with your drivers, or a corrupted DX file. My advice to you is to perform the following steps in order: a) download the latest version of DirectX b) download the latest drivers for your motherboard c) download the latest drivers for your video card (from ATI or Omegadrive) d) uninstall your current video drivers (from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel) e) reboot f) install DirectX g) reboot h) install motherboard drivers i) reboot j) install video drivers k) reboot *DO NOT* neglect to reboot each time, or you will surely have problems. In fact, if you really want to be sure about future stability, reboot twice for each "reboot" step. I know it's a tedious process with many reboots, but that's one of the prices you pay when running Windows... If that doesn't take care of it, we'll go from there. -AT
You should also download Memtest86 which tests the RAM because I've had that problem once and it turned out that the RAM was faulty.
weird thing happened... i was just playing around tryingsome different things. I started up star wars galaxies (hiss, boo... I know ), and after a few minutes of runing around not able to see a damn thing, the lines and such just vanished. i am assuming the problem still exists though, because this is the second time it has been that bad. first time a friend of mine did something to it, and "fixed" it. thanks for all the help. I'll hang around sometimes and see if my limited knowledge will help anyone.
When you update the drivers, are you unistalling the old drivers, rebooting, and then installing the new ones? Or are you just reinstalling the new ones directly over the old?
You should definately uninstall your old drivers before installing new ones, or you will often have problems, especially with WinXP. I dunno if you like tweaked drivers, but Omegadrive drivers clean old drivers as well.
I installed my all-in-wonder 9800 pro on my new system and every time i use the video tuner it crashes, and often when i'm just running the computer it will crash as well. I say it crashes, more specifically....the screen goes black or freezes up. Any idea's what the problem could be. I've uninstalled my drivers and installed the newest so i don't think it's the drivers. Any advice would be helpfull.
