hi, i've been trying to install windows xp on my machine for the last couple of days but have been hitting a brick wall every time. it's not detecting my HD, i presumed this was because i had a SATA RAID controller as i know winxp has no drivers for this starting up (yet win98 seems to?? ) by using 'hwinfo' in linux it seemed i had two raid controllers: i first tryed both drivers which i got with the manufactorer cd they didnt work, so i tryed them both together, that didnt work either so i decided to try posting here! heres relevent system specs: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ maxtor S-ATA HD (apparently uses 'sata_promise' driver) K8T NEO 2 motherboard
You are correct, during the windows install process, at the start it asks you to press "F6" I think, to install third party drivers, this is when you need the drivers on a floppy drive, after which windows will detectd the HD, so you can carry on installing XP.
does it detect it in BIOS? also is SATA enabled in BIOS? also make sure you are using the correct driver.
i asume so seeing as how linux windows 98 and my old windows xp installed and booted up fine. i'm using the promise driver that i got off my cd with my motherboard and the via driver i got off their website WinXP Promise FastTrak 376/378 (tm) Controller driver and the VIA VT8251/8237/8237A/6421/6410 SATA RAID Controller(Windows NT4)(there is no winxp driver, it says to use this one) driver i got what drivers to use off the linux hardware info
