In my motherboard manual (Gigabyte GA-81915P Duo Pro), it mentions in the specifications section that if I wanted to use a DDRII 600 module I would have to install an 800MHZ FSB CPU and overclock in BIOS.

Why is this the case with this particular module?

Plus, to overclock in BIOS, what exactly is it referring to here? Is there a specific component that it is referring to like the RAM, or the system on a whole?

Your CPU is stuck to a particular FSB frequency and the RAM runs at a mulitple of that FSB.

Your board only has settings (multiples) for DDR2 533.

To run DDR2 600 you will have to use the RAM mutiple for DDR533 and then increase the FSB so that the 533mhz is at 600mhz. Maybe you can only access the RAM multiple for DDR2 533 when you have a 800mhz FSB CPU.

If your not sure about overclocking id skip the DDR2 600. Its a bit strange that Gigabyte put that statement in the manual because they might as well say to use any RAM faster than DDR2 533 you need to overclock your FSB. At the end of the day your board doesnt support DDR2 600 and for a manufacturer to recommend overclocking is irresponsible, IMO.

That, and the RAM speed next up after DDR2-533 is DDR2-667.
